approach 用法

随着考试的临近，复习课堂笔记是个好主意。

As approaching examination, it’s a good idea to review your class notes.

As 作为“随着”理解时，是一个连词(conjunction)，连词连接的几个部分是对称对等的，在上面的翻译中， it’s a good idea to review your class notes. 是一个句子，那么前面的 as 连接的也须是一个句子，approaching examination 显然不是一个句子，要把它改成一个句子可以写成：

As the examination is approaching, it’s a good idea to review your class notes.

如果不用 As 的话，也可以翻译成：

It’s a good idea to review your class notes for the approaching examination.

这个时候，approaching 就是non-finite verb 作为形容词在用，修饰后面的 examination.

approach 既可以作为动词使用，也可以作用名词使用。

approach 作为动词使用时，可以表达“(在距离或时间上)靠近，接近”的意思， to come near to sb/sth in distance or time. 可以用作及物动词，也可以用作不及物动词。

例如：

1. Winter is approaching. (vi)
2. As you approach the town, you will see the college on the left. (vt)

approach 做名词使用，可以有以下意思：

1. 方式、方法、态度 a way of dealing with sb/sth; a way of doing or thinking about sth such as a problem or a task. 这个时候 approach 后面往往跟着介词 to 引入一个名词，和 to 一起构成一个介词词组，作为 approach 的定语。例如：
   1. She took a wrong approach in her dealing with them.
   2. The school has decided to adopt a different approach to discipline.
2. 接近 movement nearer to sb/sth in distance or time. 例如：
   1. She hadn’t heard his approach and jumped as the door opened.
   2. The approach of spring.
3. 通路；路径；道路 a path, road, etc. that leads to a place.  后面往往用介词 to 接上目的地，和 to 一起构成介词短语，做 approach 的定语。例如：
   1. All the approaches to the palace were guarded by troops.
   2. a new approach to the airport
